Wow, what a dramatic title! 🙂

Total Loss: 30.7 pounds in seventeen weeks

Amazing. The miracles keep on coming. I wish I could make sense of this. I eat horrible and lose weight…and then there’s been weeks where I’ve KILLED myself working out and eating well (coughcough “Marathon week”) and lost barely anything. Oh well…I couldn’t be happier even if it doesn’t make sense!  (Does the thirty pounds happy dance!)

This is going to be a short post for a few reasons: First, I didn’t count calories or water or exercise so nothing to post there! Plus I got a lot of prepping to do for my New Year’s Eve party tonight! I’m so excited. Monday starts back to the calorie counting and tweet what you eat program and yes, exercise. Don’t worry treadmill I haven’t forgotten you!

I’ll be back tomorrow with a post about New Year’s Resolutions as well as South Beach Steve’s Perfect Ten goals challenge. I hope everyone has a happy and SAFE New Year’s Eve tonight!

Let me start out by being completely honest: I have had a horrible, horrible diet week. I mean, embarrassing. So bad that I weighed my options (har har) and decided I could not weighing and saying I was “too busy with Christmas stuff to post”…but I just couldn’t. Even though I’ve done bad, I want to keep going. Even if I gained I wanted accountability or else I might fall off the wagon completely.

Then this morning happened. I woke up preparing to head to my parents for the Christmas visit and weighed first. I was SHOCKED at the results. I have NO IDEA how this happened but…

Week 16:
Start (9/1/09): 234.8

Week 1 (9/8/09): 226 (-8.8)
Week 2 (9/15/09): 225.3 (-0.7)
Week 3 (9/22/09): 222.4 (-2.9)
Week 4 (9/29/09): 221.1 (-1.3)
Week 5 (10/6/09): 219.1 (-2)
Week 6 (10/13/09): 219.1 (No Loss)
Week 7 (10/20/09): 216.7 (-2.4)
Week 8 (10/27/09): 215.6 (-1.1)
Week 9 (11/3/09): 216.1 (+0.5)–Birthday week!!
Week 10 (11/10/09): 214.1 (-2.0)
Week 11 (11/19/09) 212.7 (-1.4)
Week 12 (11/26/09) 207.9 (-4.8!!!!!)
Week 13 (12/3/09) 209.2  (+1.3)–ugh.
Week 14 (12/10/09) 207.5 (-1.7)
Week 15 (12/17/09) 208.8 (+1.3)
Week 16 (12/24/09) 205.3 (-3.5)

Total Loss: 29.5  pounds in sixteen weeks

I have NO IDEA how this happened. My water intake was less. I didn’t exercise AT ALL. And I ate so so bad. Eating out like 4 days of the week. I baked cookies and ate a lot of them. Had two work parties. The ONLY thing I didn’t do was drink. I avoided alcohol all week.  I want everyone to know that I’m not bragging, I’m just shocked. My question wasn’t, “would I gain?” it was “HOW MUCH would I gain?”  I was scared to post the results then I saw this number, on a week when I behaved terribly.  Shrug. I’ll definitely take it, but I dunno…something’s fishy!

My only theory is that my bad behaviors for the week haven’t had time to register in my body yet. So next week’s results might be super bad. Unless my body needed an impact of higher calories to boost something…I dunno. I’ve read stuff that when folks eat a lot after months of dieting they have a big loss.  Yeeeah, that’d be great, but I’m still going with my theory that next week I’ll pay for all this perkiness!

So yeah, there ya have it…4 months of the journey gone! I’m so happy with this result, even if it does make me raise an eyebrow. Before I close, I want to wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!  I hope you and your families have a wonderful holiday season. I’m so thankful for all of you that inspire me with your comments and your own posts. It’s so great not to be in this alone.

HO HO HO!!!! 🙂

Thanks to Mya for the song title idea to steal for a Post Title!

Week 15 is ovah! And what a good week it was. In my life, that is. In my diet? Not so much. I knew it was gonna be a disaster. Monday was our “holiday cookie/candy swap” day at work and it was SO much fun…loaded with tons of candies and cookies and such. And I indulged, I admit it! I took the day off totally. And it was fun and delicious and life moved on.

The problem is, I kinda took the rest of the week off too. Over the weekend we ate out a bit, drank Saturday night, ate out Tuesday night with friends…it was like BOOM BOOM (POW) as far as roadblocks go.

And exercise? Don’t get me started! I was still “injured” Thursday, but the rest of the week? I did no workouts, unless shopping counts as cardio. No excuses at all, and trust me I’ve tried to think of a good one!

With all that said, I was super dreading this week’s weigh-in. In fact I had a bad dream about it last night. Crazy stuff. So here are the results!

Week 15:
Start (9/1/09): 234.8

Week 1 (9/8/09): 226 (-8.8)

Week 15 (12/17/09) 208.8 (+1.3)

Total Loss: 26.0  pounds in fifteen weeks

So…it could have been SO MUCH WORSE. And I was expecting it to be. I guess the only good point in the week is that while I did eat out a lot and splurge more, I tried to make up for it in other meals, eating light lunches and stuff. Oh, while we’re dissing me, one more thing…I didn’t count calories this week either. Granted, I had a running tally in my head all day each day, but I wasn’t logging them as accurately as before. It’s kinda hard to track the calories in brownies and cookies people bring to work 😉

So this week is gone and another is starting. Next Thursday is CHRISTMAS EVE!! So I plan to shed what I gained this week so I won’t go into Christmas day in the red again.  I would love to be all “Biggest Loser-ish” through the holidays, only eating lettuce and chicken breasts, but I’m just not that guy. I’m trying to enjoy my holidays with friends and family, and that includes the yummy foods that go along with them–just less of those foods. My weight since Thanksgiving has been a yo-yo effect going up and down just a little each week, but that’s fine since I haven’t been as committed with the holidays hovering.

Man I can ramble, can’t I? Hope all of yall have a good week leading into Christmas!!

It’s Thursday again, so I’ve been nervous as hell all night in anticipation of weighing! Let’s get right to the results shall we?

Week 14:

Week 14 (12/10/09) 207.5 (-1.7)

Total Loss: 27.3  pounds in fourteen weeks

Thoughts: First, hopefully the Thanksgiving damage is done as I’m back down to the smile worthy weight I had that day before all hell broke loose! I’m not going to complain about the loss this week, because a loss is great, but I was hoping for a better number only because of how hard I’ve exercised (harder than ever before) this week coupled with no drinking and strict calorie limiting. But, nothing I can do to change it, so I’m just gonna thank the scale for what it gave me and keep pushing.

Speaking of the workouts, as all of you know, this was “marathon week”, hosted by Steve. The challenge was to walk/jog/run 26.2 miles in a week. I started off insanely well, then Saturday started hurting. But I continued “going through the pain” as they say on Sunday and Monday, but then two things happened. First, I found out the challenge actually ended Tuesday night at midnight, instead of Wed night at midnight. I had misread it, oops. So this meant I only had one day left to get in six miles to finish. I knew with the pain I was in this wasn’t possible. Then I thought I’d finish it “late” and would at least be finishing it, but I just couldn’t get through the pain on Tuesday. So I failed…sorry!  On the bright side, I DID set a new exercise record for myself, going a little over 20 miles in a week…which is incredible for me, Mr. Exercise Hater supreme. I’m especially proud of the three days I got in 4 miles each session…now that was tough! I’m hoping I can get in a walk tonight, even if it’s slower than usual. Even though I’m still hurting, the not exercising is leaving a guilt that hurts more in some ways!

Quick peek at this week’s calories/exercise/water:
Thu: Cals-1523; Ex-60 (4mi); W-110
Fri: Cals-1610; Ex-46 (3mi); W-100
Sat: Cals-2000 (est-party); Ex-32 (2mi); W-90
Sun: Cals-1750; Ex-48 (3mi); W-70
Mon: Cals-1610; Ex-62 (4mi); W-110
Tue: Cals-1588: Ex-0; W-40
Wed: Cals-1400; Ex-o; W-86

I did good on all 3 fronts I think. The only “off” day was Saturday, which would be impossible to calculate with all the nibbling while baking, but even with that I know it wasn’t out of control or anything. Exercise, as I said, was great, and water was good too.

I am 7.5 pounds away from my New Year’s goal to be 200 by 1/1/2010. That’s a lot when you look at how slow I lose, so I’m not sure if I’m gonna reach it, but I’m definitely gonna keep trying! 🙂

Oh…quick question: Do yall have Facebook? If so I would love to add you on there. Let me know if you wanna be FB friends by leaving a comment or emailing me at craigversion2@gmail.com with how to find you!

Hello all,

Hope this post finds yall doing well. How was everyone’s weekend? It was a nice, quiet one here…with a roadblock or two, as usual!

After work Friday I exercised, getting in 3 miles. I had a normal supper and all was well. Saturday, I woke up with a bad pain in my right hip. It would catch when I moved a certain way…was not feeling well! I still managed to get in two miles on the treadmill later in the day, but it took effort! I started to rest up, but I reallllly want to complete Steve’s marathon challenge that ends on Wednesday so I kept going.

Another reason was because Saturday night was our annual Friends Christmas Party, which meant good food galore. I made a chicken casserole and like four kinds of sweets (brown sugar chewies, home made cookies, muffins, and peanut butter cookies). Needless to say, I was nibbling as I baked, so I counted that as my lunch and had a fiber bar for breakfast. That night at the party, I avoided all alcohol (instead I had water), and made a portion controlled plate consisting of turkey, a little dressing, half a roll, a little corn, and mostly my casserole, which I had made as light as possible using lowfat soup and sour cream. For dessert, I had about two bites of a delicious cake someone had made and two cookies. I had fun, but didn’t over indulge. Everyone else had these HUGE plates of desserts, and I couldn’t help but feel a little jealous…but I got over it. The alcohol was what I really missed, but I have taken a break from it for a few weeks.

However, Sunday had it’s rough spots as well. Unfortunately some of those yummy sweets were around the house still and I had some for breakfast, and a few for an after lunch snack. That’s the bad news. The good news is I estimated them (highly, I hope…) into my daily calories and ate light for lunch and dinner. My hip pain was still there, maybe a little better, so I got on the treadmill and against better judgement did 3 more miles towards the marathon goal.

Today is Monday (ugh) and I’m happy to say all the “bad sweets” are gone, so it’s back to normal around here. My hip is not hurting as bad today, so I’m very happy about that. I’ve done 16 miles in the challenge since Wednesday, so that means I have 10.2 more to go before this Wednesday at midnight. I think I might actually be able to do this!  I’m also hoping for a good loss this week, after last week’s gain and all the hard work and extra miles walked this week. We’ll see!

Oh….we got the Christmas tree up this weekend, so I’m definitely feeling some Christmas spirit, finally! The tree and all the packages from Amazon arriving always do the trick! Only about 18 days left, right?

That time again. I was literally naseaus and a ball of nerves about weighing this morning. So much that I even had trouble sleeping last night.  Why? It’s not like I’m on a reality show.  Ahhh, Here we go…week 13 results!

Total Loss: 25.6 pounds in thirteen weeks
Thoughts: This was the most I have gained in a week since I’ve started this lifestyle change.  I have lots of excuses, like it was Thanksgiving week, or that I drank a good bit of vodka Saturday night, or that I only exercised twice all week…but in reality it doesn’t matter. Hopefully the slate is wiped clean for next week. I’m really disappointed in this week’s results, but I was expecting a gain. I was HOPING to stay the same, but what can ya do?
A quick look at this week’s calories/exercise. This won’t take long since I was gone a lot and didn’t count exactly most days!
Thursday (Thanksgiving), Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: I went over my calorie limit on Friday and Saturday.  I did okay on Thursday and pretty good on Sunday…I just didn’t count these days. I had a rough estimate going in my head, but didn’t tweet it all out like I usually do.
Monday: Cals 1290  Exercise: 45min (3 miles); Water–128oz
Tuesday: Cals 1630; Exercise: 0; Water–96oz
Wednesday: Cals 1220; Exercise: 60min (4miles); Water–110oz
I had every intention of exercising hard on Tuesday as well, but dinner with friends ended up lasting past 9pm and when I got home it was too late. (Look–another excuse!)
Now that I’ve given myself a good lashing for all the mistakes, I wanna talk about some positives. First, against all better judgment inside my head, I signed up for Steve’s MARATHON CHALLENGE~! on Wednesday. Basically, it’s a challenge to do 26.2 miles (the distance of a marathon) in one week. I know most of them are running it, but, as my loyal readers know, I’m simply not a runner. I’ve tried…and I continue to try, but I’m fast walking/jogging it. I’ve logged eight miles in two days so far. I really am giving it my all. I don’t think I’ll be able to get the full 26.2 in (my average has been 10-12 miles a week…)  but trying new stuff is fun.
I’m also integrating the “Couch to 5k” program as well. I’ve kinda been doing it unofficially for a week but today I followed the first week’s program exactly. It’s tough (like I said….I’m so not a runner!) but I was able to do it.  And while I’m talking about exercise….these 8 miles have been ROUGH! My thighs and ankles are aching as I type this.  Tonight I did 3 miles earlier and I really felt like my ankle was about to snap, so I quit. Then I made supper and started feeling guilty, so I did another mile after I finished eating.
Another little happy moment: my “big pants” are getting a little roomier…which is nice. And last night I tried on my “normal pants” and while they buttoned, it was still quite the squeeze to get into them. But on the bright side, at least they button now. I’m not sure I could stand to be in them all day, or even more than a few hours, but I’m slowly getting there!
All in all, not a good week, but not a total wreck either. I had a very happy Thanksgiving and a fun weekend and paid the one pound price…so it was worth it I guess!  I was mostly so happy that my big loss last week wasn’t a TOTAL fluke. I was half expecting to have “gained” like 3 pounds b/c that number was so high compared to my usual results it seemed like a fantasy number!
Talk to yall later, when I’ll have some sort of weekend update unless my horrid attempt at the marathon challenge lands me in the hospital!  🙂
